Why should I complete my summer reading assignment?
Summer reading is designed to help you maintain reading skills during the months that you're not in school. Reading on a regular basis will also result in making you a better writer, more influential speaker, an interesting person to talk to AND increase your understanding of the world around you. Not engaging in educational activities during the summer will negatively affect your personal growth and academic success:
"Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer" (White, 1906; Heyns, 1978; Entwisle & Alexander 1992; Cooper, 1996; Downey et al, 2004).
Being consistent with your reading habits will make you a better person in every way. Enjoy your summer but squeeze in a few minutes of reading each day and you won't regret the results!
